Phillip Charles Bread
Director of Indian Sales

Phillip Charles “Yogie” Bread is known both nationally and internationally for his involvement in promoting American Indian customs, traditions, heritage, and culture. With heritage of both Kiowa and Cherokee, Phillip has worked with many Tribal Nations in the development of Economic Development infrastructure. As the Vice President of Marketing for Coffey Enterprises, Inc., he worked to create partnerships between American Indian and non American Indian companies. Spending five years with the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, he worked as the liaison to the Governor and the 38 Nations of Oklahoma. As the Director of Tribal Assistance, Phillip encouraged and assisted tribal nations in the development of tribal/community based business practices, business recruitment, building blocks of economic development.

Phillip has served on the boards of Save the Children, the Customer Advisory Panel for Southwestern Bell Telephone, KOCO’s Who Care, the Junior League of Oklahoma City, and the Starting Right Community Council. Through his efforts in the preservation and with accurate representation of the American Indian, Mr. Bread has received many honors and awards. He was a featured speaker at the International Indian Council, organized by the Cherokee Nation. This was the first of its kind in 150 years. As one of the 50 most recognized American Indian leaders, Phillip has been memorialized with inclusion in the new collectible trading cards collection called “The Pride of American Indians”. At the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian, Phillip worked as the Community Relations Specialist in 1994-95. In this position, Mr. Bread implemented a program to increase awareness and support for the National Museum of the American Indian /National Campaign Office among tribes of the Western United States. Phillip was also instrumental in developing a telecommunications infrastructure for the Chickasaw Nation. This was the first site to operate an Oklahoma telecommunication project called “ONE NET”.

He has worked with numerous organizations, corporations, and projects to develop accurate representations of the American Indian. Within the Film Industry, he has served as a consultant for projects that include such projects as the Academy Award winning film “Dances With Wolves” and Ackerman & McQueen’s “Native America”. Working with OKC Television Anchor Linda Cavanaugh, Phillip helped create the Emmy award winning Documentary, “Strangers in Their Own Land”. His other work within the Television Medium includes Oklahoma’s award winning State tourism campaign and in the creation of materials for Turner Broadcasting Series “The Native Americans.” Mr. Bread has lectured at many High Schools, Colleges and Universities around the world. These include the Linguist University in Budapest, Hungary; Texas Christian University for their seminar on “The Plains Indian, Fact, Fiction, Film”; Northeastern Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma’s American Indian Symposium, and Brown University at the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology.
